The Zoe E-Tech company released their new electric vehicle; which they claim to be able to reach 130 mph. To test its capabilities, they had it tested at a third-party facility that confirmed its capability of reaching speeds over 209 km/h and staying energized for up to 300 mi/483 km on one full charge without emitting any pollution.
The Zoe E-Tech (or Zoe ETech) is a small all-electric car. It has a range of 240km and is built by Renault, a well-known French car manufacturer. The Zoe is designed to be an affordable and practical alternative to cars that are already on sale. It’s targeted at young people, who will find it more cost-effective than other EVs and modern.
The Zoe ETech is now on sale for a base price of $23,200. You can opt for extra features that will push it up to $26,500. Tesla Model S, by comparison, starts at $70,000. So you’re paying more than twice as much (for a lower-range vehicle) when buying a Tesla than you are with Zoe. But there’s more to it than just price…
It has no tailpipe emissions and can go up to 239 miles on one charge. It also comes with an 8-year traction battery guarantee and MY Renault app-connected services, so you can use them on your phone.

The Zoe Cons is a high-end option for those looking to go fully electric. The biggest downside for some buyers is that it only comes with a small battery that may not get you through your day-to-day commute. In some areas, there’s also zero infrastructure support for EVs. If that’s not enough, there are reports of people experiencing broken doors and faulty motors. That said, in terms of price point and what you get out of your purchase, it may just be one of France’s best options in an increasingly crowded field.
The Zoe, by French manufacturer Renault, is a compact four-door sedan. Built around an aluminum chassis and wrapped in body panels made of carbon fiber reinforced plastic (CFRP), it weighs just over 2,400 pounds. Underneath its stylish hood is a lithium-ion battery pack that delivers more than 100-kilowatt hours of electricity — enough to travel 250 miles before needing a recharge. When fully charged, however, Zoe can reach 60 mph in 8 seconds and has a top speed of 93 mph. (Most battery-powered cars have significantly slower acceleration.) Compared with conventional gas-powered cars — which emit as much as 400 grams of CO2 per kilometer — Zoe emits zero greenhouse gases while driving around town and about 50 grams per kilometer on longer drives.
The Zoe features a 22-kilowatt-hour lithium-ion battery, rated at 102 miles of range from a full charge. The official EPA range rating is expected to be closer to 90 miles per charge, and Daimler says that in mixed European driving it should come in around 80 miles per charge. We’ll have to wait for an official U.S.-market rating before we can tell whether or not these figures are accurate, but they seem pretty reasonable given that each mile traveled in an EV uses less than 1 kWh of energy compared with over 5 kWh per mile in a gasoline-powered vehicle. In our video drive, we drove 68 miles on one charge with lots of spirited acceleration and hard braking.
The Zoe E-Tech comes with a home charger that takes eight hours to charge. A full charge takes just over six hours, so if you drive more than 50 miles per day, you’ll need to plan your route to include at least one charge point during your journey. The Zoe is also compatible with rapid chargers and will typically recharge in 30 minutes. However, if your trip is less than 20 miles it’s not worth paying for a rapid charger; simply use a regular charging station instead. Although you won’t get as many recharges out of a rapid charger (typically four or five), you can easily keep enough fuel in your tank for daily commuting without breaking the bank on electricity charges.
While one of my primary motivations for buying an electric vehicle was to save money, I wasn’t quite sure what kind of savings I would get. To answer that question, I compared driving costs on a real-world basis (including all taxes, fees, and electricity costs) between my Honda Accord Coupe and Renault Zoe E-Tech. The results were surprising: After just one year, driving an EV will pay for itself!
EVs generally cost less to drive than conventional cars when you factor in all aspects of ownership. You don’t have to shell out for costly maintenance and repairs, and fuel costs are lower. Electricity rates are lower than average, particularly if you have solar panels or another means of generating your own power. However, a variety of other factors should be considered before pulling out that credit card for an EV.
